Gas Goes From Bridge to Obstacle for Utilities, Group Says
Natural gas is transforming from a “bridge fuel” that helped slash greenhouse gas emissions at U.S. power generators into a costly obstacle on the path to clean energy, according to an environmental group.
Most U.S. power utilities are still investing in gas-fired power plants and pipelines that will be operating “far beyond what is permitted in climate stabilization model,” the As You Sow group said in a report written in collaboration with the policy firm Energy Innovation.
