Environmental Health:

Removing toxic hazards from production and use of consumer products

Environmental Health refers to the impacts on human health from exposure to chemical, physical or biological agents commonly found in your home, office, or community.

Familar examples of environmental health problems include exposure to lead in paint, asbestos in building materials, air and water pollution, and pesticide residue.

As You Sow seeks to ensure that consumer products are safe, that hazardous wastes are properly disposed of to significantly reduce contamination of air and water supplies, human exposure to hazardous components is limited, and that there is adequate validation and transparency of corporate practices.. Our work toward improving corporate policies on health and safety emphasizes:

  • Increased disclosure of potential human health risks
  • More thorough product testing
  • Elimination of toxic or environmentally hazardous components
  • Labeling and increased transparency of product ingredients
  • Proper disposal and recycling methods
  • Safe worker conditions
  • Promotion of non-toxic or “green chemistry” alternatives
